A great start to a weekend
It is Saturday. But it has been raining the whole day. Not a heavy downpour, but a steady drizzle. So there won't be any jogging for me today. Not that I'm complaining. Despite the good that exercise will do, I have always felt a tinge of gladness every time it rains, putting a damper on outdoor plans. Back in my school days, when the time comes for Physical Education class and we had to run to the field for soccer, I will always heave a sigh of relief every time it rains. But my joy was short lived. For the worst was to come. The Physical Education teacher would tell us all to go the gymnasium and perform somersaults on the floor or jump over the "horse."
Back to the present, even though it is raining, I am feeling contented. There is nothing like sitting all day in my plush leather work chair right in the living room, attempting to do work that I had brought home from the office. And glancing at the TV every now and then. Not a bad start to a weekend after all. I get to laze around at home, get work done and be with my family, all at the same time.

After the jog
Went for a jog this evening with my wife just like I did the day before. My wife has made it a point to jog every day and dragged me along to jog with her. It was just a few months back that I started to jog again after years of inactivity (where outdoor sports are concerned).
Come to think of it I have never been good in any sports. Some people are naturals. They will show their mettle on the very first day of their tryouts. I have had the opportunity once when as a bachelor. I was staying with a young Assistant District Officer. He took me to a tennis court where I had to try hitting the tennis ball against a wall first. I was not able to retrieve a single shot and I ended up incurring his wrath when I tried collecting the ball off the tarmac with his racquet. Then that night he took me to a hotel where there was a pool table right in front of the reception. I tried but I ended up hitting the ball right off the pool table. A few times. So he did not take me out with him for games again.
I had not been able to be join other men in in the neighbourhood for games like futsal, badminton and whatnot. That is why the only way I could work out a sweat is by jogging. But I have no regrets, whatsoever. The feeling after a long jog is as good as I would have had running up an down the playing field. But minus the friends I would have made. But then again, still, I am glad. I have my wife for company.
